Hi, welcome back and a Happy New Year to you !

Tusayan is as close to the park as you can get and other than booking lodgings inside it is your best option IMO. Williams and Flagstaff may offer better value options as they are a little further down the road. Out of the east entrance is the pretty cool 'Cameron Trading post' that does lodging and would be another option. It could be worth a stop on the way to MV to have a wander around the store if you don't end up spending a night there.

Thanks Dave, much appreciated, has anybody stayed in Tusayan before and if so can recommend a particular hotel

Hotels.com shows 3 hotels with rooms available in Tusayan on March 25 - the Grand Hotel, the Best Western, and the Holiday Inn Express. Rooms in all 3 are close to $200 a night.

There is a nice little motel next door to the Best Western called the 7 Mile Lodge which has considerably cheaper rates (should be less than $100), but they do not take reservations. It's strictly walk-in, first come first served. That is the only place in town I've stayed at.

Rooms at the Cameron Trading Post are just under $100 and they do take reservations.

    Default RTA reservations link.

Having searched on the RTA reservations site the Canyon Plaza which is located just 1 mile from the entry kiosk is offering rooms from $119. I don't have any first hand experience with this place but it's worth checking out IMO.

Cheers Guys, ended up booking the Grand Hotel for $125 on a travel agents concession, so pretty pleased with that.
Only thing left to book now is around the Lake powell/Kanab area, our friend is doing the Antelope Canyon tour as he is a keen photographer, so any accomodation around this area would be much appreciated

    Hi Andy,

we ended up booking the Courtyard by Marriott Lake Powell in Page. Not cheap, but seemed reasonable enough (we try to stay under 100 € max per night, which is around 145 USD).

    Cheers,
    Marko

Page has several budget-friendly hotels/motels - the only one I specifically do NOT recommend is the Super 8 - it's not well maintained and customer service is poor.

Afternoon all, would like to say a big thank you so far for all the excellent information you have provided so far, just under 4 weeks now till we set off so i thought i would post a final update of our itinerary, plus a couple of further questions

March 21st, 4 nights @ Paris hotel Las Vegas
March 25th, 6.00am start, heading across Hoover Dam, picking up old Route 66 then up from Williams to Tusayan in time for sunset @ Grand Canyon, 1 night stay @ Grand hotel, Tusayan
March 26th, As much time as possible in the Grand canyon before heading out East and up to Monument Valley hopefully in time for another Sunset, 2 nights @ Gouldings lodge
March 27th, Full day tour booked around MV
March 28th, Heading off to Page for 1 night @ Days inn and suites, taking in Antelope Canyon, Lake powell, Glen canyon dam
March 29th, Early start and off to Springdale, Zion for 1 night @ The Majestic view lodge, undecided yet as to do the Sunset Tour or the 3 hour Midday tour the following day
March 30th, Need to get our vehicle back to Vegas airport no later than 9pm ready for our flight to Miami @ 11pm, so if we do the Midday tour round Zion we will be done for 3pm giving us 6 hours to drive back, if anyone can recommend a couple of little stopoffs on the way back would really help.

So how does this sound? and is there anything else you can advise or recommend, also will there be any time differences to take into account?

    regards andy

The tour sounds good to me. We have planned a similar tour, even though we don't start with 4 nights in Vegas, but from San Francisco instead and ending the trip in Las Vegas.

In Page we also chose the Days Inn. We thought to make a kayak tour on our own from Antelope Point Marina. That depends on the weather of course, but might be a great experience.
