Nothing to do with a highway or any road, for that matter. Neither is it anywhere near DC. Actually, it is not anywhere on the east side of the country.... nor on the west.

As hinted to by glc, it's sorta in the middle of the country. But there is a similar monument in the west which is very popular.

We thought it might stump some of the regulars.

It is part of a geographical feature which is found all over the country.... in fact, all over the world. Just that there is a special reason for it being hilighted here. The monument out west, which is not a 'pile of rocks', is often referred to as a tourist trap.
