24 days for a road trip from Miami to San Francisco

Hi!

We are a group of spanish travellers thinikng about making a road trip from Miami to San Francisco this summer. We have 24 days to make the trip and we want to see some nice spots along the way.

We are thinking about going through Memphis (we know is not the optimal route, but we want to spend a couple of days there) and Las Vegas (spending 2 more days there). In the rest of the route we would like to avoid big cities.

Do you think is too optimistic? Do you have any recommendations for the route? Do you know any good non-expensive company to rent a car in Miami and drop it off in San Francisco?

24 days is a very nice amount of time to make this trip. It can be done quite comfortably in a week, just driving straight there, so you've got a lot of time to explore and take detours.

However, because you've got so much time, you've got far more places you can go than we could possibly narrow down at this point. Really, the entire US is available to you, so really at this point your best bet is to start learning as much as you can about things to do and see in the US. Looking at the National Parks Service website, looking around this forum, reading books, etc so you get a better idea of the major things you want to see and do really is the first step.

Once you've got a better idea of what you want to do, beyond just Memphis and Las Vegas, then we'll be in a better position to help you put the pieces together.

For car rental, again, your best bet is to shop around to as many places as you can - making sure that all fees including the one way drop off, extra drivers, underage fees (if applicable), and taxes are included in your quote.
