Help Please!!! Going To Grad School Need To Tow My Car

Hi. I am planning to do a rideshare and my travel companion is going to tow my car. What are the requirements to do this? CAn I simply purchase a trailer hitch for his pickup-he's towing a tracker. Any help you can give me I will appreciate greatly. Thank you.

Go to Penske or U-haul and rent a car dolly -- I sure wouldn't purchase a hitch that you are not going to need again.

My experience of recent years is that the U-Hauls and their competitors are fairly picky about what equipment they'll rent for what purposes. Liability issues, I suppose.

When you start to inquire, you'll be asked very specifically what you're towing and what the tow vehicle is, right down to engine displacement (for example, Chevy K1500 with a 4.3 liter V6). I expect they'll flatly refuse to do business with you unless the tow vehicle has their requirements as to engine size (which generally translates to horsepower and torque) and the weight of the towed vehicle, which they have access to via tables and charts.

Additional discussion of "what to do" is likely premature. I think you can do your inquiries as to available rental equipment largely online. U-Haul accomodates this quite readily, I recall.
