I agree with Southwest_Dave that Park Service does not seem to make much effort to re-open. I'm sure it's less work for them with it closed and there is some danger for an unaware driver going off the road due to ice in area with no cell phone service and temps predicted to be in the teens at 6000' and as low as 5*F Sunday at Mammoth main lodge, elev. 8900'.

Mammoth is scheduled to open on 11/10. The question is whether it will be one lift and run on man-made snow or more. There currently is no new snow predicted in the next 10 days.

    Default It's open.

Tioga pass is listed as open today but at this time of year it's always worth checking before travelling as you never know. I think they closed it purely as a precaution. The weather in general looks settled into the middle of next week but those nightime temperatures could still cause problems if it ices up. This has been known to cause overnight and morning closures until the sun gets to work and de-ices the road. We were once held up until midday during one October wondering if it would open or not, we gambled and stayed put, fortunately it payed off.

    Default November begins quietly.

As the image from the Sentinel webcam shows below, it's rather settled as we head into November. There is a chance of a mix of rain and snow towards the weekend, but it doesn't look as though it will amount to much.

    Default Temporary closure.

Due to hazardous weather conditions the Tioga pass and Glacier point road will close today at 5pm. At present this is classed as a Temporary closure so we may (or may not) see them open up again. There is not much in the way of new snow accumulation but it's possible icing of the road could be an issue.

    Default Could this be it!

Glacier point road has re-opened but the Tioga pass is still closed at this time. (If you are travelling use the Yosemite site for latest news) The weekend looks settled, but if they don't open it for the weekend the risk of snow increases through the week starting Monday night. By Wednesday snow is likely and could be heavy at times. Could this be the beginning of the end for the season ?

Default Looking forward to seeing the snow build up here

Wow, they have a new, higher-rez camera and have moved the angle slightly.

Looking forward to seeing the snow build up here.

    Default Open for now.

The Tioga pass re-opened at 2pm on Friday but it could be short lived. A storm is expected to arrive next week and the forecasts suggest more stormy weather is possible the following week. You might get to see that snow soon Mark

Default Temporary closure at 5pm today.

Glacier point road is temporarily closed and the Tioga pass will close at 5pm today. There isn't a huge amount of snow in the forecast over the coming days but going by recent history, it could be enough to become a permanent closure for the season. Perhaps those lucky enough to be driving this great route today will be among the last to do so for 2023! If that's the case then liam2k04 would be our new Dctpp (Darn close Tioga pass prognosticator) but lets not jump the gun, it ain't over yet.

We need a new DcTPP --so hoping this works out. Surprising that it closed this early. Although looking at the list of closing dates, that you posted earlier, it's just about on-time!

I just can't get over how much nicer the new web camera is!

Web Cam as of May 2013 (Wow, those trees have really taken a beating over the last ten years!)

In fact, all of the Yosemite Conservancy web cams have been upgraded -- that's pretty dang cool.

    Thanks for the update.

I see that somehow I never "voted" in the poll. I have now updated this to match my earlier prediction of "First Dart of this season lands on Friday, November 17th at 8 am" which i posted on September 28th.

    Default The pass remains closed

The new camera isn't looking so 'Hi-def' at the moment, it's pretty murky up there.

Some heavy snow predicted which could settle up to 18 inches deep at 9000ft elevation.
