I'm just hoping, that through this thread, it will help just one other person try to plan a moving trip. If it keeps them from sightseeing, encourages them to drive in tandem like we did, or just keeps their mileage down when towing or using a U-Haul, then, GREAT!
We got the word yesterday that we should still get our load on Friday or Saturday. Our driver called to say he was leaving California today. That was good news.
We also changed hotels. We *were* in the OYO at the Lake, a former Econo Lodge, but the owner closed the pool and gave up breakfast, and has let the place slide. We changed to another place, where there's a pool, the bed is comfortable, the room was clean, but it is otherwise in need of remodeling (not enough electrical receptacles for modern times; good thing we carry an electrical strip!). It's called the Inn at the Grand Glaize.
Also, we won't be in our rental for very long. We put in an offer on a house on Saturday, and after a bit of countering, it was accepted. Yes, it means we have to move twice (we knew that going in), but we didn't expect to find exactly what we wanted right away. My piano will be able to stay in storage for a little while, but the other stuff has to move in. We just won't unpack much.
Finally - a place where we'd stayed many times while at the Lake, Quality Inn Lake of the Ozarks, no longer exists. We drove by it on Sunday to find both driveways roped off, no cars in the lot, looking sadly empty. A little research tells me that the property was sold to new owners and that the franchise was let go. Whether it will reopen as a hotel in another brand, or the property razed and made into something else, remains to be seen.
