Default Hamilton, MT to Anacortes, WA - Best route

Hi, I'd be grateful for advise on the best route and places to stay on a little road trip.

My dog and I are driving from Hamilton, MT to Anacortes, WA. I'm thinking a nice easy trive will take us 3 days. It looks like Interstate 90 is the most direct route. Do you think that the best way to go? I'm fine with a cabin at a campground or a motel.

    What do you suggest?

    Thank you,
    Michael

PS I don't let my dog drive anymore. She thinks it's funny to aim for squirrels and cats along the road.

Considering that this is a 600 mile trip, you won't need 3 days unless you want to do a lot of sightseeing. The fastest and most direct route is in fact I-90. If necessary, this can just be done in 1 long day. What would you like to do besides just getting from point A to point B?

Your previous thread indicated you are going from So Cal to Montana with a 5th wheel, is this a different trip or is it just a continuation of that one? You're talking about cabins and motels here, so it would seem to be different and you're just traveling by car here?

    Hi Gic,

I'm taking it slow and easy. I like to enjoy a liesurly drive of between 4-5 hours a day. After reading your reply and looking at the map again today, I've decided a 2 day, one stop strategy will be fine.

I haven't found any special attractions along the I 90. Route. Do you have any recommendations? I'm thinking I'll stop for the first night in Spokane Valley and in Seattle. It's a short drive to the Annecortes Ferry depot from there.

    Thanks again,
    Michael

Hi Michael, This is a different trip - a side trip to an Island in Puget Sound and then, the Columbia gorge and river. I'm leaving my 5th wheel in Montana for a bit.
    Smiles,
    Michael

The halfway point is Ritzville WA. They have a Days Inn, a Best Western, and 3 mom and pop motels. Spokane, of course, has a larger selection.

Quickest way into Anacortes is I-405 to I-5 to Mt. Vernon, then WA-20. If you are spending the 2nd night in the Seattle area (which I would if you spend the first night in the Spokane area), a slower but very nice drive would be WA-525 off I-405 to the Mukilteo ferry onto Whidbey Island.

If you do spend a night around Seattle, I'd do it in the north suburbs to avoid morning rush hour into the city, you would be going against traffic. There are a bunch of hotels around the I-5/I-405/WA-525 interchange.
