    Default Camping: Covid-19

As of today, May 31st, it appears that many states are opening up their state park campgrounds. Most, however, are only doing it at 50% capacity. Some have restroom and shower facilities open, others have not. Some have abandoned their reservation systems entirely, in order to control the number of campers when at the gate.

National forest and park campgrounds are very slowly being opened up, but a few will stay closed through 2020. Some national parks will have limited services open, such as general stores, delis, fuel stations, and restaurants.

It would be wise for campers to check the websites of any campgrounds they are considering, for the status, before departing from home and then again when en-route.

This thread will be updated as needed.

The month of July 2020 for Theo. Roosevelt NP has been canceled for camping.

Update: June 2 - as stated by two regulars, above, things in the US started to open up as of June 1st. Yet there are things still closed for camping. The national parks are hit-and-miss.

Canada appears to be the same -- some campgrounds opened up June 1st, while others stay closed.

Best recommendation would be to follow a link to the park you wish to stay at, and see what the current status is. If it hasn't been updated in awhile, call the park or email them and ask. Some parks even state, "if you get a busy signal when you call us, email us at (address given)."

I learned about the Theo. Roosevelt NP in N. Dakota via an email informing me that it would be closed all July and they (recreation.gov) were giving me a full refund.

Have not heard from my campground along the Canadian side of Lake Superior yet.

If I was to take a bet, I'd take the odds on the campground being open before the border reopens....
