  1. Default Roadtripping May 2016

    Hi all,
I'm an Aussie who has been living in Virginia for the past 8 months. My best friend is visiting from Australia this week and we are Roadtripping the following Yorktown Va- New Orleans - Memphis- Nashville - VA.
Is anyone else Roadtripping around these times in the same locations? Also would love advice on what to see / do in the above places.
    Thanks
    Hope

Yup! I will be on the road, but unfortunately, not likely to be in the same locations. Have a great trip, take it easy, there is so much to see along the way..... no matter where you travel. So different from travelling across the Nullabor.

What to see and do in some of those locations.....your interests will have a great deal to do with what you choose.

For instance, the common thread in Memphis, Nashville, and New Orleans is MUSIC. Memphis, of course, has Elvis Presley's home Graceland. I also think of the blues there, because of Beale Street. Nashville is country music headquarters, with many sites to see relating to that (Grand Ole Opry, etc). New Orleans is the birthplace of jazz, and (to a degree), the blues. Of course, I think of these because I have a very strong interest in music.

There are a lot of other things in all three cities. New Orleans has the French Quarter, a beautiful botanical garden, history such as the oldest continually servicing Catholic church, and more. Nashville has a plantation, The Hermitage, a botanical garden, and a park with a full-size replica of the Parthenon. Memphis has the Civil Rights Museum and a zoo.

    New Orleans
The French Quarter is interesting but some parts are a bit sleazy. It is fun to take the ferry across the river at night, especially as a pedestrian. There is a Marri Gras museum too. Take a guided tour and make sure it visits the cemetary which has an interesting history
