we're a family of five, kids age range from 14 to 19, planning to drive from new york city to grand teton nationalpark/yellowstone nationalpark, about 10 days to and fro, last week of july to first week of august. is this feasible? thanks.

Welcome to RTA!
Depending on which route you decide to take, that is about 2200 miles one way. That's four days of driving 550 miles per day, which is about 9-10 hours in the car each day. Do that twice, and you've used 8 days. You should allot at least two days, possibly three, to see Yellowstone in its entirety, and one more for the Grand Teton park. There's 12 days right there.

I have to agree with Donna. This is a 4 day trip each way, maybe you could push it down to 3.5 if you did speed runs there and back and didn't stop to see anything along the way, but anyway you slice it, you're looking at a minimum of 3 overnight stops each way for a safe and reasonable trip.
Thats a whole lot of driving, for a pretty small amount of time in an area with so very much to do.
Could you extend your time to 2 full weeks? That would make a huge difference in making this a much more enjoyable trip.
thanks donna and midwest michael. we can stretch it to 12 days. what do you think is the best route to and fro? google is showing I-80, i've only used that up to PA. 2200 miles is like double of florida which we drove for 24 hours max one way, with short stops included. however, i am planning to stop for a night but i don't know where and when. this is our first time driving this far.
As I mentioned, you need to plan a bare minimum of 3 stops, not one for this trip.
Frankly, driving to Florida in one shot is quite dangerous as there is no way that everyone was a safe driver during that kind of drive. Even considering doing that on a multi-day trip is homicidal. Its very much the difference between a sprint and a marathon - and you can't run a marathon at the same speed you run a 40 yard dash. Driving any more than about 600 miles per day, even with multiple drivers, is a very bad idea. Drowsy drivers are every bit as dangerous as drunk drivers. Even if you do manage to make it without getting into a crash, it is almost a sure thing that your family will want to kill each other before you get to the Mississippi River.
Doing this as a speed run - which doesn't leave any time for any fun stops along the way - stops in Angola IN, Omaha NE, and Rawlins WY are the farthest stopping points you should even consider. I'd really recommend dialing that back though to say Toledo, Des Moines, and Sidney NE, so you can actually stop a couple of times and actually enjoy the roadtrip.
That type of trip would definitely not be fun for anyone, but particularly the teenagers. Can you possibly do a fly-drive???? Fly into a city like Salt Lake City, and rent a car when you get there. You'll then be able to enjoy the area and it will be a vacation, not a marathon.
