This world-class museum is a must-see for any visitor to Chicago. It's most famous exhibit is Sue, 'the largest, most complete, and best preserved Tyrannosaurus rex ever discovered.' The Lions of Tsavo, a pair of man-eaters responsible for dozens of killings, are another favorite especially among children but there's something for everyone. There are nearly 90 wildlife dioramas showcasing dangerous animals hunting other animals. Other exhibits include a large collection of Jade, Native American artifacts, and a bug's eye view of the world deep in the soil. In 2013 there are also five temporary exhibits examining oil fracturing, living with wolves and other natural pheonomena. Guided tours as well as audio tours are available for exploring this huge museum.

      If you go:
Consider buying a CityPass, it's valid for 9 days and gives you discounted entry to some of Chicago's most popular attractions. The Shedd Aquarium and a planetarium are also close by, within walking distance. Plan to pay for parking as there is no free parking anywhere. Open every day except Christmas. 9am - 5pm
