Williamsport's most popular nightclub was originally a prison, and the decor inside this Gothic stone structure creates a unique atmosphere for an entertainment venue and watering hole. Comprising three levels, with an upper level that still looks like an old cell block, complete with the doors of inmates' cells. The club features four bars, and an ample dance space in the courtyard where hangings once occurred (you'll see nooses displayed all over the property).

      If you go:
Open until 2:00 a.m. every night. Opens at 8:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9:00 pm. on other nights. There is a cover charge when bands play. Must be 21 to enter except for Thursday night, which is targeted especially to college students, and the minimum age drops to 18. Next to the Cell Block is another historic stone building: the original home of Grit newspaper. Note that The Cell Block has additional venues in the Pennsylvania cities of Erie and Clarion.

This sorta reminds me of the Jail House Cafe in Ely, Nevada. It was never a real prison, but each of the tables are located in old-time cell blocks. The food and decor are both outstanding -- or they were were when I wrote this article. Mark
