The visitors' center in Aiken is home to the Aiken train museum, housed in a reconstructed vintage railroad depot. The exhibits relate to the South Carolina Canal and Railroad Company, which was the first steam-powered commercial railroad company in the nation, and was even at one time the longest railway in the world. The depot is also the departure point for the Aiken Trolley Tour, a city-operated two-hour excursion through the historic features of Aiken.

      If you go:
Museum open Tuesday through Friday 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday 9 am to 2 pm. Admission is free. The trolley tours depart on Saturdays at 10 am, at a cost of 15 dollars per person.
