(Update November 2022): The Cabot Visitor's Center in Cabot, VT is no longer open to the public, but we have preserved this article, as evidence of what used to be found here. The Cabot Farmer's Store in Waterbury Center, VT is open.

Cabot has been making cheese for 100 years now. And today, its cheeses and other dairy products can be found in stores all over the country. The Cabot Visitors Center is located at the company's main plant, one of four it operates. While the plant itself is no longer open to tours, you can take a virtual tour, and you can catch a glimpse of the operation through a window. And you can sample and purchase a wide variety of cheeses and other products, many of which you may not find in stores. The gift shop is also a good place to purchase other Vermont products and gifts or souvenirs.

      If you go:
Open 10 to 5 daily during the summer. Open 10 to 4 Tuesday through Saturday during the winter. Cabot is owned by 800 farm families in New England, many of whom offer tours of their farms. Check the website for details.
