Jekyll Island's Driftwood Beach is one of the most photogenic sites in the whole of the USA, extremely accessible, and situated within easy reach of many of the east coast's most popular vacation destinations. Yet somehow it remains something of a local secret, completely unspoilt. Sun-bleached dead trees litter the beach for hundreds of yards creating a dramatic, otherworldly scene that cries out to be explored, climbed, and photographed.
If you go:
Park up on the road that runs beside the beach, walk no more than 10-15 yards through light shrubbery and while you may not have the place entirely to yourself, you still get the sense of having discovered something that most visitors somehow contrive to miss.
