Built in 1859 by the grandson of a friend of George Washington, this house was home to many generations of his distinguished family. Noted visitors to the house included John James Audubon and John Chapman (Johnny Appleseed). Today, the house is a well preserved museum filled with furnishings, heirlooms and historical artifacts dating back to the 1600s. The grounds also feature what is possibly the oldest schoolhouse in the state, and three prehistoric burial mounds.
