Freetown Fall River State Forest has over 5,400 acres of thick forests, streams, ponds, and hiking trails. Two major landmarks within the forest are Profile Rock and The Ledge. Profile Rock is a natural rock formation that closely resembles a human countenance and is believed to be the face of Chief Massasoit by the local Wampanoag tribe. The Ledge is an 80 foot cliff overlooking a large pond formed by a 19th century granite quarry.

      If you go:
The smaller roads are not maintained very well and may be difficult to drive on. Horseback riding, fishing, bicycling, hunting (with permit), and ATVs are all allowed with the forest. In winter you may even spot dog-sledders!
