Rhode Island's largest and oldest park, Slater Park is home to a number of recreational activities, including paddle boats shaped like swans and dragons. There are several historic features, including the 1685 Daggett House, the oldest house in the city. You also can ride a classic Looff Carousel dating to 1895. Various festivals are held in the park, including the Slater Park Fall Arts Festival, which features performances by the Rhode Island Philharmonic among other things. The park is 197 acres of fun and splendor.
If you go:
Park hours are 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. all year long. The Arts Festival is held every September.
