St. Thomas was originally a Mormon farming town located on the banks of the Muddy River. The construction of Hoover Dam, and the subsequent formation of Lake Mead, resulted in the city being covered by the new lake. In the mid-2000s, the water levels dropped enough for the ruins of the town to reemerge. The area is now a unique historical site. The surreal landscape makes for great photo opportunities.
If you go:
The turn off from Northshore Road is marked with a sign. The dirt road is about three miles long, and is easily accessible for most vehicles. There is a restroom to the north of the trailhead but no amenities. Be sure to bring plenty of water as the humidity tends to run higher in the area. The loop trail is 2.5 miles long and long pants and hiking boots are recommended.
