The world's largest tram car ascends 6000 feet up the San Jacinto Mountains, transporting you from a desert environment to a chilly evergreen environment in a matter of minutes. At the top are literally breathtaking views, fine dining, exhibits and hikes of varying levels of intensity. In the winter you can go cross country skiing. If you're a hardy enough soul, you can even camp on the mountaintop.
If you go:
Trams begin operating at 10 a.m. Monday through Friday and at 8:00 a.m. on weekends, and run at least every half hour (usually every 10 minutes) until 8:00 p.m.. Last train returns at 9:45 p.m. Bring protection against both sun and cold. The drive to the tramway departure point is up the side of a steep hill, so it's not advisable to take an RV. If you have no other options, take a taxi. Admission to ride the tram is also rather steep. Parking is an additional 5 dollars for vehicles of any size.
