Nubble Lighthouse - York, Maine

This beautiful lighthouse is located on the Cape Neddick Peninsula, on a large rock near the town of York. Access is by row boat for maintenance. The town of York has plans to open a special visitor center at some point in the future, but visitors are welcome to stop and park at the Sohier Park and take photos of the Nubble Lighthouse. It was built in 1877 and lit for the first time on July 1, 1879. The tower is 41 feet high and 13 feet in diameter. It was managed for many years by the US Coast Guard but is now decommissioned. There is a small gift shop and restrooms open seasonally from mid-April to mid_October. The parking lot can accommodate about 60 vehicles.

There is a nice restaurant, Fox's Lobster House, right near the parking lot, but a better one is back in York, called Lobster Cove. York is located about an hour north of Boston, Massachusetts. If you have time to stay overnight, there are several inns and b and b's that offer stunning views of this lighhouse.
