Beginning operation in 1822, Savage Mill was an important textile mill for over a century. It supplied canvas for ships, the Civil War, Hollywood's first silent films and both world wars. Today it has been reborn as a shopping center of unique character, housing art galleries, antiques, jewelry, and dining among other things. It also contains the headquarters of two outdoor adventures that take place nearby: Tag Party Recon, featuring outdoor lazer tag on 4 wooded acres, and Terrapin Adventures, which offers zip-lining, a ropes course, kayaking, tubing, biking and other excursions.
