It's hard to think of Boston's colorful history without the momentous Tea Party coming to mind. Thus, it's hard to believe that this museum only opened in 1973. Recently opening for the third time after being destroyed by fire, it now offers a multi-sensory immersion in history that not only provides historical reenactment, but allows the spectators to get in on the action by assuming the roles of actual revolutionaries - including the chance to dump simulated chests of tea into the harbor. There are recreations of period ships and exhibits of historical artifacts including one of two known surviving chests that were actually dumped overboard on that historic occasion. And just to show that there's no ill will against tea itself, you can savor a cup of the stuff, as well as food, at Abigail's Tea Room.
If you go:
Open daily, with the first one-hour tour beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the last at 5:00 p.m. Tours begin on the half hour. Admission is a bit steep - 25 dollars for adults at this writing. And since this is downtown Boston, parking will be a sum to reckon with as well. No photography inside the museum.
