• Au Sable River - Mio, Michigan

      There is a particularly scenic byway that passes through the Huron National Forest known as Co-Hwy 602. It follows the equally scenic Au Sable River known to fisherman throughout the country as one of the best fly-fishing streams to be found. Brook, Brown and Rainbow Trout can be caught here. There are ample places to hike and take photographs in the area. And the Department of Natural Resources maintain convenient access stairs from the road pull-outs to the river's edge. Unlike many places in the USA, fishing is permitted on this river all year long. The Au Sable is a major tributary to Lake Huron.

      Canoeing is also popular on the river and there are several outfitters in the area. And an annual 120 mile canoe race which occurs every July.
