Washington's crossing of the Delaware River on Christmas night 1776 "and subsequent attack on Hessian troops" was a key moment in the USA's fight for independence from the British, restoring morale after a series of defeats. The crossing itself, carried out in atrocious winter conditions, took place by the McKonkey Ferry Inn, a building that still stands to this day. While the main attraction is clearly its historical significance, the park is also popular for its trails and wildlife.
