Sitting at the base of Hallett Peak and Flattop Mountain, Bear Lake is one of Rocky Mountain NP's prettiest and popular sites. Follow the 0.6 mile interpretive loop trail around this subalpine lake and every opening in the spruce/fir forest offers a different photo opportunity. Along the way you're likely to encounter ground squirrels and chipmunks, you might spot greenback cutthroat trout in the water "but no fishing is allowed."

      If you go:
Buy an interpretive guide and follow the trail counter-clockwise; there are 30 points of interest to look out for, ranging from different tree types to a view of Longs Peak. The trail is wheelchair accessible but it's not possible to go the whole way round in a wheelchair.
