• Why Not Travel Store - Why, Arizona

The community of Why was once simply known by the letter Y, representing the shape of the junction where Highways 85 and 86 met. It got its current spelling when residents were told that "real" city names in Arizona needed at least three letters. The travel store, with its equally memorable name, sits a couple of hundred yards south of the junction (now, disappointingly, T-shaped). Truth be told, it's a road trip attraction with only limited appeal but it's not often you get the chance to visit a place with such an unusual name so why not?

      If you go:
The Why Not Travel Store is ideally located for last minute provisions and/or gas whether you're heading south into Organ Pie National Monument or east across the Tohono O'odham Nation Reservation.
