Modern and bright, Bannock County Historical Museum couldn't be more different from the traditional dusty old county museum, but the collections are exactly as you'd expect: local history in the form of railroad paraphernalia, Shoshoni objects, archaeological specimens and reconstructed general store. Directly opposite is Fort Hall, an impressive replica of the historically important trading post first built in the 1830s to serve fur trappers and traders.
If you go:
The museum is open all year round. Summer hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Mon to Sat, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sun; Winter hours are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Tues to Sat. Fort Hall replica is open Memorial Day to Labor Day, same hours as the museum.
