In the Fall of 2008, we headed through 2,778 miles of the southwest desert terrain for a glimpse of the annual balloon festival held in Albuquerque, NM. We also decided to take part of our 10-day journey and get a few more national parks & monuments checked off on our list.
  1. The Arizona Meteor Crater, found near Winslow on I-40, was so big I couldn't get the entire thing in my camera viewfinder.
  2. Here are some of the amazing rock formations found in Sedona, AZ.
  3. You'll find this locomotive engine on Hwy 180 north of Flagstaff, AZ, on the way to the Grand Canyon.
  4. I managed to get a shot of Humphrey's Peak, the highest point in Arizona, near Flagstaff.
  5. In the far south of Joshua Tree National Park, there were springs that made for patches of paradise-looking greenery, such as this one in Cottonwood...
  6. We're entering our last park of the trip, Joshua Tree National Park, consisting of the borders of two desert landscapes.
  7. You might be able to make out the half-moon in the crevice of the rocks near Sedona, AZ.
  8. One of the things to see in Joshua Tree National Park is the aptly-named Skull Rock.
  9. I'm posing by one of the trademark yuccas inside Joshua Tree National Park.
  10. In the southern portion of Joshua Tree National Park, hordes of these cacti grew in the Cholla Gardens.
