For Spring 2012, this 6-day excursion covered 1800 miles over most of the vast ranges, valleys, and cities of the Mojave Desert in the Southwestern US.
  1. Dante's View can be seen as a "Cliff's Notes" edition of Death Valley National Park. It will take you 5500 feet up for a fantastic overlook.
  2. After a long day, we finally roll into Vegas from Hwy 95 to I-15.
  3. At the Red Rock Canyon NCA Visitor Center, this white lizard poses.
  4. Desert Tortoises could only be found at the Red Rock Canyon NCA Visitor Center.
  5. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is aptly named for its layers of rock.
  6. Slanted older layers have surfaced from beneath the newer ones, creating a split-level scene at Red Rock Canyon NCA.

  9. The mountains to the west provided spectacular scenery at Red Rock Canyon NCA.
  10. We caught a little bit of the nightlife on Fremont Street in Las Vegas, NV.
  11. The Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas, NV has a light show which acts as a 1000-foot-long TV with a huge surround sound system.
  12. An evening at the Rio in Las Vegas, NV provides an hourly show in the sky.
  13. The sign of Mojave National Preserve beckons us to the final destination of our trip.
  14. Joshua Trees can grow to a height of 20+ feet inside Mojave National Preserve.
  15. If the desert is your thing, you will prefer Joshua Tree forests in Mojave National Preserve to the usual mountain pine forests.
  16. Several rail lines such as Union Pacific run through Mojave National Preserve.
  17. The right angle provides a nice backdrop of a Union Pacific freight pacing its way across Mojave National Preserve.
  18. Even the dirt roads have little pockets of something to offer in Mojave National Preserve.
  19. Petroglyphs can be found on the rocks at the Hole-in-the-Wall area in Mojave National Park.
