  1. Default NY to Miami - 10 day road trip

I am planning to take a 9-10 day roadtrip from NY to Florida starting Feb 16 returning back on Feb 25 with my family ( parents and sister visiting from overseas ). I want to cover as many points as possible.

I plan to stop by Washington DC, Atlanta, Orlando on the way. Any suggestions on some other places I should stop on my way that would be good to visit at this time of the year/scenic routes would be welcome.

    Thanks in advance.

Road Greetings Bsa and welcome to the RoadTrip America forum!

One of my favourite route in the mid-coast area is US13 in Delaware, partly because the road is never more than a few miles from a beach and also because it helps avoiding traffic. But the main reason is I've always liked to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel:-) Moreover, there are some interesting Mom & Pop Motels along the way.

Are you interested in history? If so, don't miss the Virginia historic triangle : walk the Williamsburg historic district, explore the dig site in Jamestown and visit the Victory Center in Yorktown, VA

The Outer Banks of North Carolina is a must see at any time of the year, especially if you enjoy peaceful walks on the beach, lighthouses and quiet settings. For more extravagant attractions spend some dollars in Atlantic City casinos or trade fake pesos with Pedro and his friends at South of the Border, SC.:-)

I'm a huge fan of the movie Fried Green Tomatoes and I always wanted to visit the original Whistle Stop Café in Juliette, Georgia. They apparently serve very tasty food in addition to their home-made fried green tomatoes and they're only about 70 miles south of Atlanta. If you're a groupie of the Indigo Girls, try the Watershed Restaurant in Atlanta owned by Emily Saliers.

Florida is bursting with attractions : the Everglades, the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, the Ernest Hemingway Home in Key West, South Beach in Miami, etc. You didn't say much about yourself, maybe if you tell us more we could give you more personalized advice.

    Happy planning!

Default Time Waits for No Man

New York to Miami through the cities you've listed will require about 1600 miles of driving. That will easily take you 3 days down and 3 days back, leaving you less than a day in each of the cities you've mentioned. As Gen has indicated, there is a ton of stuff to do in the eastern US, both on the coast and further inland where your cities to visit are. You can take different routes down and back, but in the end, I don't think your problem will be finding enough to do, but cutting down to something manageable in the time you have available.

I did that trip some years back ... I remember stopping at Atlantic City, Chesapeake Bay Bridge, Savannah, Jacksonville, Fort Lauderdale, Miami .... then across the Everglades and up to Naples. From there I went up to Atlanta. It wasn't a bad trip, although driving through Florida can be a bit monotonous - but the cities are nice.
