This grand old tugboat now parked
in Agate Bay in Two Harbors, Minnesota was --
until 1981 -- the last coal-fired, steam-powered
tugboat still working on Lake Superior. Originally
built in with a wooden hull in 1896, she was
later converted to a steel-hulled vessel and
reinforced to work as an ice-breaker. The interior
of the Tug has polished birch paneling and custom
brass fittings. The tug was listed on the National
Register of Historic Places in 1975 and remains
in operating condition while serving as an interpretative
center administered by the Lake County Historical
Society.
