Geneviève Lauzière reports: Despite
its extremely long name, St-Georges-de-Windsor is
a tiny village nestled in the Appalachian Mountains
about thirty minutes north of Sherbrooke and two-and-a-half
hours south of Quebec City. Instead of building a
conventional observation tower, the nearby towns decided
to ask Mrs. Josée Perreault, a local artist,
to create an original project. They wanted a platform
that would fit in a rural environment such as St-Georges
but would be an attraction in itself. The base of
the platform consists of huge painted boulders that
represent a cow lying in a field. The rest area is
located on a hill which is apparently the highest
point in the area. When the sky is clear, you can
have a 360-degree view of the Eastern Townships. Needless
to say, it is a very popular spot among astronomy
observers, both professional and amateur.
