This hard-to-ignore
sign advertises the car wash owned by Ben Forat.
Artistic but controversial, the sign was created
by sculptor Gagik Daniel in 2001 and features
a life-sized replica of a 1957 hot pink Corvette
sitting on top of giant yellow sponge held by
a slightly larger-than-life fiberglass hand.
Unfortunately, the size of the original sign
(26 feet tall) exceeded the height limit specified
by the sign ordinance of the city of Los Angeles,
and it was reduced to the current size. A
photo of the original sign can be viewed here.
