The Ely Greenstone Public Art project began in 1998 and has sponsored a variety of public art projects in Ely. This mural was the first of five large murals created under the auspices of the Ely Greenstone Public Art (now known as the Ely Arts and Heritage Center) group. This 25 x 34-foot mural was painted with the help of several volunteers over a span of twelve days. It is located on the side of the Conoco station at the corner of N. Central Avenue and Sheridan Avenue (Minnesota Highway 169).

William Defenbaugh, Jr. lives and paints in Ely, Minnesota. More information about the artist is online here.
