What is that thing?

Daily Log 11.01.96 - Milepost 72,503
Hawthorne, New York
We've paused at the Hawthorne Receiving Manhole, a Westchester County facility where we can empty our holding tanks. Not surprisingly, New York City is not oriented toward the needs of motor homes, and locating a dump station has been part of the urban adventure.

Daily Log 11.02.96 - Milepost 72,521
Armonk, New York
The place to be on a crisp fall morning in Westchester County is Schultz's Cider Mill in Armonk. An old fashioned donut machine is working overtime to keep a long line of weekend regulars happy, and nobody is leaving without a jug of cider and a basket of apples. We've got a big bag of winesaps to munch on as we drive through the last of the autumn leaves.

Daily Log 11.03.96 - Milepost 72,554
Katonah, New York
We're exploring Westchester County and realizing that autumn is drawing to a close. Most of the trees are bare now, and the breeze is definitely brisk. Later we'll have to climb up on the roof and pull the down jackets and winter boots out of the storage pod.

Daily Log 11.04.96 - Milepost 72,576
Pleasantville, New York
We're pausing once more in Pleasantville before we head out to explore Long Island tomorrow. We enjoyed some truly excellent fresh bagels this morning-- New York's still got the best!

Daily Log 11.05.96 - Milepost 72,576
Pleasantville, New York

Yes, we're still in Pleasantville, taking an extra day to write and catch up with the box of mail we received yesterday. Mail reaches us every two weeks or so, which means there's always a lot to deal with!

Daily Log 11.06.96 - Milepost 72,589
Briarcliff Manor, New York
Today we're visting Philips Labs, where research and development for the Philips Company goes on. A major project right now is high-definition television. Next, we'll be heading out to Long Island.

Daily Log 11.07.96 - Milepost 72,692
Holbrook, New York
After stopping in Sleepy Hollow to visit the Old Dutch Church made famous in Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," we drove through New York City and halfway out Long Island. We'll spend the next few days exploring!
