The Middlegate Shoe Tree
Sad update: January 4th, 2011 -- The Middlegate shoe tree has been chopped down by unknown shoe tree haters. According to news reports, the Churchill County Sheriff's Department is investigating.

RIP, Middlegate Shoe Tree.

Middlegate Shoe Tree

This impressive cottonwood tree is located about two miles east of the town of Middlegate on US Highway 50 ("The Loneliest Highway in America") in Nevada. Its location is also notable in that it stands on the Pony Express Trail on the banks of Rock Creek in the Clan Alpine Mountains. We haven't been able to pin down excatly when it began receiving shoe offerings -- our earliest photo documentation was provided by Mark Helmlinger in the summer of 2003. The pictures on this page were taken in July, 2005.
