Wisconsin's
ice road is somewhat
unusual in that it exists only a few months each
year. A popular television show recently profiled
the challenges and dangers of driving heavy-laden
trucks along the ice roads of northern Canada,
but, as you can see from these photos shot by
Rod Ness, smaller vehicles also carry out assignments
on seasonally frozen roadways in other areas.
These photos were taken on the ice road constructed
each winter on Lake Superior between Bayfield,
Wisconsin on the mainland and LaPointe, Wisconsin
on Madeline Island.
