The Mosaic Tile
Car is a 1969 Alfa Romeo that been a Key West
landmark for over a decade. Originally conceived
and created by Lenny Addorisio, the car has
been reworked and maintained by a number of
artisans at Glass Reunions, the contemporary
American art glass gallery where the tile car
is on display.
The added weight of the tiles would present
a significant challenge to the car's suspension
and tires, but now that the vehicle has a higher
calling as a work of art, it has no need to
be mobile. If you look closely, you can see
that the car is floating above the ground, held
up by a heavy-duty transport cart. You can also
(barely) see the photographer in the gallery
window.
Glass Reunions has closed permanently. It was located at 825 Duval Street
in downtown Key West.
