Located in northeast Iowa about
16 miles from the Mississippi River, this 25-foot
tall mural of "Paula the Cow" greets
visitors to Waukon. The artist,
Valerie Miller, grew up in the Midwest and developed a fascination
with cows. She began painting them while studying
art at Bradley University. A definite sense
of character emanates come from each of her
bovine subjects.
Miller also paints what she
calls "petrayals," custom portraits
of dogs and other pets.
