Anaheim to San Diego is about 2 hours unless you try to do it in rush hour.

I really think you should drive from LV to SF going through Yosemite. If Tioga Pass is open, you can go through Death Valley and up 395. If not, you can go through Bakersfield and into Yosemite from the south.

Your plan is not only costly (2 separate one way car rentals) but inefficient (a round trip from SF to Yosemite and back).

The weather in Yosemite in May is very pleasant except possibly at high altitude. In the valley, it's well into spring.

Finalised ( I think ) itinerary. Please comment and suggest attractions that fit if you like. I will start booking accommodation with suggestions welcomed. If you see any problems please let me know. I cant wait!!!

As previously mentioned, the drive to Yosemite will be 9 to 10 hours by the time you have stopped for lunch and had a couple of breaks. Hopefully the Tioga pass will be open but at this stage I wouldn't give it any better than a 50/50 chance.

You are also going to have to keep an eye on the situation with Highway 1 from Monterey to Carmel. The coast road is closed indefinitely due to a section of it disappearing into the Ocean !
Hopefully it would have long since been resolved at the time you travel.

I have tried to book at the yosemite lodge but there are no rooms available. Are there any suggestions for accommodation that is similar to the lodge? Or do I need to be staying outside yosemite? Are there any recommended areas? My plan was drive from Bakersfield to yosemite lodge to stay then drive to san fran from there.

This link has a list of lodgings in and out of the park although you will find more searching the Web. A more 'rustic' option would be the Yosemite bug. I have not stayed there but I have heard good things said about it.

Should I be changing my plans for the coast road? My itinerary will be drive San Fran to Monterey for nights stay, drive to San Simeon/Cambria for night stay then onto LA. Will I be able to still do this? It seems that the highway will be closed for a while. Can I still access these places or should I just change my route and avoid the coast road?

Your plan will work, but if Highway 1 is still closed at the time of travel you will have to use 101. I have my fingers crossed that it will be open by then, but there is no way of telling. Goodness knows the local business's needs it to be !You can follow developments in this thread.
