Caltrans is now reporting that Ebbetts, Monitor, and Sonora are all closed for the winter. Tioga is still just closed "due to snow".
Beautiful sunny day on Thanksgiving!

That recent snow storm is melting pretty quickly on the eastern slope of the Sierras...

There is a hazardous weather warning out for Thursday that could see one to two feet of new snow on the ground and winds gusting up to 65mph over the ridges. This is then followed by snow showers right through the weekend and into next week. If that happens then surely it's time to call it as a permanent closure for the season.
Dave.
It does seem peculiar they the NPS hasn't already made the call "official" -- Has any part of the highway been open since November 1st?
Mark
Not that we know of Mark, but they seem reluctant to call it closed for the season. [Again]
Dave.
The YNP Facebook page now says road is closed for the winter. The press release announcing closure for the season is dated Dec. 9th, so still have to wait for the determination and posting of a "closing date" on the historical listing of opening and closing dates. The openings seem to be much clearer and less subjective than the closings.
Hi Jessica. Yes we will need to wait for the official confirmation but I am expecting the closure date to be November 1st. This was the last date the pass was open to vehicles, the 9th December is just the date they announced it will not re-open. As I predicted in an earlier post, they couldn't delay it any longer with the storm coming in on Thurs, although I have done that before and they still refuse to call it. lol
Dave.
