Yosemite NP has updated it's page and officially declared the Tioga Pass closed on November 1st for the winter. Unfortunately we have no winner for this contest and not even a dctpp. [Darn close Tioga pass Prognosticator]
The closest we got was RahRah who predicted November 6th way back at the beginning of August, unlucky !

A gorgeous view this morning:

Truly a beautiful view. I've mentioned this before (though not in this thread, I believe), but California is expecting El Nino this year. That might be good for the Falls, and it also may keep Tioga from opening too early.
Right now, the San Diego area has had a full day's worth of off-and-on rain. We love it, as it appears to be an easy, gentle rain. So far the mountains east of us are white-stuff-free, but we're keeping an eye on them due to travel plans after Christmas. But if Yosemite gets the type of rain/snow that we are expected to get down here, look forward to the Falls being beautiful through June!

Another gorgeous day in the back country of Yosemite:

Nice catch Mark, it's really good to see the snow returning like that !

Those of us further south are getting pounded -- by rain! The El Nino has arrived and announced his presence!

With more significant snowfall predicted for Friday night through Saturday !
For anyone travelling to Yosemite it would be wise to check on road conditions, especially as the El Portal Road (continuation of Highway 140 into Yosemite Valley from El Portal) is closed due to rockfall at the present time.
Call 1-209-372-0200, press 1, then 1 again for road conditions.
The CA-140 closure is indefinite, and is between the park entrance and the CA-120 junction. Chains are required throughout the park and on CA-41 outside the park unless you have 4wd with snow tires, except in the valley. In the valley, you need snow tires or chains, regardless of whether you have 2wd or 4wd. Even with 4wd and snow tires, you must carry chains.
The Hump is packing down...

CA-140 has reopened.
The Hump grew a little from the most recent storm:

And now a view of Mt. Whitney -- so the eastern slope is getting some snow too!

What I want to know is... what kind of animal left that paw print there!

So who fancies their chances at predicting the Spring 2016 opening of the Tioga Pass. The new thread is now up and running so good luck !
