Sonny,
That's the same type of mount that I used on my Mazda! I was trying very hard to use the same mount on my Subaru, but I just couldn't get the clearance between the hood and the front fender to give the mount enough room. Plus I was afraid to ruin the brand new paint! :( Those mounts tend to sway back and forth a bit (unless screwed in the way you did!) and wear at the paint a bit, but nothing usually shows from the exterior!

Mark, they are 3' Firestik FireFly, thinner than the normal Firestik so less wind drag and more flexibility. I hit it with overhang branches while offroading many times and it holds up well. It also has a tunable tip that make tuning really easy.
BW, I was thinking of installing the base spring to help with the sway but found out the Firefly is thin enough that swaying is not an issue. The mount is very sturdy if you use all screwholes.

I have a Wilson 4' Silverload Flex, which is 1/4" fiberglass instead of 3/8" fiberglass like most antennas. The Wilson also has a tunable tip.
I may look into the hood mount again, but I wanted to avoid drilling any holes in my new car, so I don't think that the hood mount will work the way I want it to. I spent a long time trying to find a place to mount the antenna but maintain a good ground plane, but that's tough to do on new cars that have so much rubber and plastic that insulate too well!
