Please help! San Fran to LA via Las Vegas

Hi, sorry as I'm sure someone has posted something similar but I'm totally overwhelmed and don't know where to start. I am planning a road trip for my partner and I to go from San Fran to LA via Las Vegas in late April this year. I've got a car, picking up in SF, from the 26th April until the 15th May when I fly back from LA to the UK. I want to take as many coast roads as possible on the drive and so am looking for any advice on routes, coast places to stay/visit, and drive times. We are both keen on surfing and the sea. Please help if you can :-)

I can't help with recommendations for surfing beaches, but one of the most famous and scenic Ocean drives in the world is between Monterey and Cambria on Highway 1 around Big Sur. Unfortunately you will need a 'plan B' as the road has experienced a major rock slide followed by a mud slide and is currently closed. You can find details in this thread that will be updated accordingly. By the time you travel I would at least expect the mudslide to be cleared and you should be able to head South on 101 and back North on Highway 1 for a way and there are other options, South between SF and Monterey and from Cambria all the way to San Diego. Heading North over the Golden gate bridge would be an option, perhaps taking in Wine country in Napa valley. There are also many other options to consider with your time frame, Yosemite, Sequoia and Death valley National parks and you could work in a trip further East to the Grand canyon.
