Very Cool Graphics

Scene Systems, Inc. creates animations for accident reconstruction investigations. This link goes to the page where they created an reenactment of the US Airways jet landing in the Hudson River. The video includes audio streaming between the cockpit and the ground controllers — It ‘s pretty darn amazing how calm everyone was….
Absolutely brilliant – really brings it to life. Thanks for the link Mark. I’m glad I didn’t see this until today though – my younger daughter flew out of New York yesterday (having just spent a week there as part of her photography degree course. I don’t know – in my day educational trips involved going to the woods and picking up bits of bark and pine cones!)
Can you imagine what the passengers must have been thinking when it became clear (to everyone) that the plane had been transformed into a huge (and heavy) glider?
Also, incredible that the jet didn’t hit anything on the river — all around and incredible bit of flying expertise!

Yes that’s amazing. It is hard to believe how quick it all happened and how calm the pilot was. To listen in as they were trying to arrange the emergency landing while at the same time the pilot was already “touching down” in the Hudson. Top marks !
From “bird strike” to the water landing was less than two minutes or so — An incredible bit of expertise on all parts — I love that momentary lapse on the part of the air traffic controller at the second airfield when he can’t quite believe that the jet has lost all engines…. near downtown New York City…
