Whether it's hot water, falling rocks, or poisonous air, old Comstock mine tunnels and shafts are dangerous. Fortunately, two mine tours in Virginia City offer a small taste of what it was like to be a miner in the 1800's. Lamar Baxla, above left, takes visitors on tours of the Best & Belcher Mine, and the Chollar Mine also offers tours.
