Best RV & Tent Campgrounds
Frommer's Best RV and Tent Campgrounds in the U.S.A., by Robert W. Sehlinger

This is the second edition of what was formerly known as Frommer's Unofficial Guide to the Best RV & Tent Campgrounds in the U.S.A. While the basic format has been retained, the number of campgrounds evaluated has been nearly doubled. The directory includes listings for every US state except for Hawaii and also includes information for British Columbia in Canada. One of the most important differences between Frommer's Best RV & Tent Campgrounds in the USA and the rest of the better-known campground directories...[More]

Woodall's Campground Directory

Woodall's Campground Directory 2006 (North America)

Woodall's has been our first choice of camping guides for a number of years. The layout of the pages -- especially the use of white space -- makes it exceptionally easy to read the descriptions. Each year, Woodall's representatives visit all of the privately owned campgrounds, and this year there are a record number of updates. At a glance, it's easy to find pet restrictions, availability of wireless and modem connections, handicap accessibility and online contact information for all of the listed campgrounds. In addition, the repair facilities listings have been completely restructured with new information. The Travel Sections at the front of each state and province contain facts about popular attractions, events, big rig parks, shopping, and travel information sources.

Trailer Life Directory

 2007 Trailer Life Directory

Like the Woodall's Camping Guide, Trailer Life is supported by paid advertisers and features a number of useful elements. Without question, the full-color road maps are the easiest to read of all of the camping guide books we have used. More details are provided about each campground listing than Woodall's provides, but the presentation style can make it tougher to use than some other campground guides. Nonetheless, this guide excels at providing accurate directions, open and closing dates of the RV parks, and a good description of the unusual amenities like the availability of security, ATMs, and a variety of recreational opportunities at or near the parks it profiles. Although there are a tremendous number of display ads that clutter the campground descriptions, the Trailer Life guide continues to enjoy a justifiably loyal readership among RV enthusiasts.

Wheelers RV Resort and Campground Guide 2005

Historically, the Wheelers RV Resort & Campground Guide has provided a more complete listing of campgrounds in certain areas of the USA than either Woodall's or Trailer Life. In recent years, however, Wheelers has experienced distribution problems, and we believe that the quality of the guide has declined a little. Nonetheless, it is still a very good guide, with clean layouts and easy-to-follow black-and-white maps. One of the best features of this guide is the listing of campgrounds in Canada and Mexico as well as in the United States. A FAQ is provided for visitors intending to cross borders into Canada and Mexico.

Woodall's Tenting Directory

 Woodall's Tenting Directory 2007

This is a much smaller volume than any of the other campground guides because it is targeted to tent-camping roadtrippers. The state maps are gray scale, and the font is slightly more difficult to read than either Trailer Life or Woodall's North American guides. The book provides excellent information about hiking and fishing opportunities at the tent camping areas in each state. There are also detailed descriptions of scenic drives in six separate regions in the United States.
