Well, the roadtrip is over, and the website is finally updated to show as much. Dena is still writing some of her entries, but all of mine are done, as well as all of the time lapse videos and the photos.
It was quite the journey! I'm very glad we did it, I got to see more of the US than most people ever will.

You did some clever work on that website. I had fun poking around and seeing what all you did. I love the Octopus Tree. And I feel kinda silly. I didn't even know Seattle had a Science Fiction Museum. Any Star Trek stuff there? If there is, my husband will want to drop everything and rush up there to check it out. LOL

Hello, your website is fantastic!
I am taking a five week trip from Boston to Seattle and back this summer, and I am looking for information on using my laptop...I noticed you had a pic using your laptop on the road...were you able to access the internet from your car, and if you did, what, where and how did you get it? (and is it expensive?)
It's the one piece of information I have yet to find on the internet!

There were a few places where I could find some wifi while on the road, but most of my access was at hotels. There are also many coffee shops and other stores that have access for varying fees. My laptop was running the whole time more for the time lapse video I was making, rather than being on the internet. I did all my updates from hotels, which I chose based on whether or not they had internet (when I could).
Thanks for your quick response, I was more or less thinking that we would get our internet at cafes and/or hotels. I was just hoping that maybe technology has improved to the point where the internet was everywhere! Maybe next road trip... :)
Not in our lifetime!
I sincerely doubt it. I don't see any possibility that anyone would have the sufficient bucks to provide broadband coverage to that large an area in the USA. I should qualify that, if you have a near unlimited budget as the consumer you can find useful bandwidth in most areas of the country, but there is no possible vision of the future that would enable low-cost internet solutions for the entire USA in the next 50 to 75 years.... I would stake my reputation on that!
