Welcome to the RTA Forum!
A Roadtrip is far more than a set of routes.
Without knowing anything about your plans, who is going, how much time you have, what you are interested in, and what kinds of suggestions you are looking for, there's simply no way for anyone to really provide you any useful information.
Family trip (3-4 adults), about a week, history and land formations, things to see that are historical and/or land formations
Rocky mountain NP, Bighorn canyon/national forest, Devils Tower, Black hills, Custer state Park, Wind cave NP, Mt Rushmore, Badlands NP.
History and geology aren't as apparent on the interstates. Your route sounds like a truck driver's delivery route to me.
Try the US highways if you have time. Much more scenic, much more frequently marked with historical markers and tend to wind thru the landscape which brings better awareness of the bluffs and river valleys. These were the routes chosen for ease of building thru the landscape.
The interstate system is a brute-force time-saving direct route.
